Have you watched Ready Player 1, a movie by Steven Spielberg? The film takes us to a futuristic world where people live in a virtual world and become characters in it. I think something like this may happen in the distant future where we can live two lives just like Ready Player One.

As per a Statista report, the worldwide gaming market will be worth $268.8 billion by 2025. The figure was $178 billion in 2021. The gaming sector shows an impressive growth rate. Gaming was the biggest entertainment business, worth $178 billion in 2021. Well, all these facts tell us a story, and you can see a bigger picture.

The impact of the gaming industry

I remember back in the 90s, the gaming industry was limited to the rich kids. Today, you will come across gamers in every country. The gaming industry is growing. The release of new innovative games has made gaming one of the most popular forms of entertainment worldwide.

I feel gaming has the upper hand over other entertainment like movies or web series. A game allows you to become a character in a game; this is more engaging than watching a TV show or movie. Of course, smartphones have made mobile gaming one of the most popular forms of gaming, and this trend is expected to continue.

My reasons why the gaming industry will rule the entertainment

  • Gaming is no longer a niche hobby – it is now mainstream, with an estimated 3.24 billion gamers worldwide. In fact, gaming is more popular than ever before, with people of all ages and backgrounds now enjoying video games.
  • Gaming is not just about entertainment – we can also use it for educational and training purposes. For example, many schools and universities are now using video games to teach students. Imagine if more and more students get to educate through games, the suicide rate of students will substantially go down.
  • The gaming industry also drives innovation in other areas, such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence. These technologies are used in gaming to create immersive experiences unlike anything else.
  • The gaming industry is also a major employer; this includes jobs in game development, design, content creators, marketing, distribution, etc.
  • The gaming industry also positively impacts the economy (I already showed you the facts).
  • Gaming is not just for entertainment – we can use it for social good. For example, there are now many games that help people with mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression.

Will children become game addicts?

Of course, this is a valid reason for parents to worry. Children may get addicted to playing games. We should be conscious and ensure our children don’t become addicted. However, I don’t see any problem with young people who make a career out of gaming. Let me give you an interesting example: a knife in a surgeon’s hand can save a life, while a knife in the hand of a criminal can take a life.

Bottomline

There is no denying the gaming industry has a bright future ahead. However, there are certain negative aspects of gaming that need attention. I’m a very optimistic guy when it comes to technology, I hope we can deal with the negatives and allow technology to take us to a whole new world.
